Dr Who : Birthday honours for Russell

Posted by rikimuk on 2008/7/27 11:21:39 (59 reads)

Doctor Who lead writer and executive producer Russell T Davies has been made an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for his services to Drama.

An OBE is one of the highest civilian honours available to a British subject and is awarded by the Queen, on the advice of the Government.

Russell T Davies said of his honour: "I'm delighted to accept, and I hope it does the whole industry a bit of good, for the writing of television drama to be recognised."

A BBC spokesman commented: "We are delighted for Russell - he is one of this country's greatest writers and it is fantastic that his talent has been recognised in this way."

Russell is the second Doctor Who producer to receive this award after the late Verity Lambert was awarded an OBE in 2002.

Posted by rikimuk on 2008/7/27 11:17:57 (71 reads)

Julie Gardner has confirmed that a third series of Torchwood has been commissioned and that it will be unlike anything we have seen before!

Not only will the series air on BBC One, Torchwood will have a brand new format. The series will consist of just one continuous story, delivered over 5 consecutive nights.

That's not the only thing that will be new about the series - Torchwood will have a brand new producer, Peter Bennett, who has previously worked on Torchwood and on Doctor Who as well as 'The Mummy', 'A View to a Kill' and 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom'. Euros Lyn will also join the team as Director. Euros has directed several Doctor Who episodes including the 'Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead' two-part story from the current series.

And just to add to the excitement, the show will boast some new arrivals in the cast as well...

Julie Gardner says that she and Russell T Davies "are thrilled to be bringing Torchwood back for a third series. The new series promises to be a gripping and surprising TV event and we're certain the audience will love the team's exciting, roller-coaster adventures."

Production on the new series will start in August.

Dr Who : Billies Back

Posted by rikimuk on 2008/5/31 20:35:12 (86 reads)

Taken from the BBC site

"She's changed. She's hardened. She's been through a lot in her parallel world," explained Billie in an interview for the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine.
"I think she's been through emotional turmoil. She's quite sad and lonely, but also really bolshy and - that great quality that Rose has - just so headstrong and single-minded."
When asked about the difference between technically demanding scenes and emotional ones, Billie commented:
"It's just a different kind of intensity, but equally as intense, because you really have to focus. You're imagining things, seeing things, that aren't there. That takes a lot of concentration. But this series will make you cry. That's a promise."
Other things to look out for in the new issue include: actors Steve Pemberton and Joe Dempsie talking about their respective roles in Silence in the Library and The Doctor's Daughter; executive producer Russell T Davies explaining what happened on a recent trip to the BAFTA awards; and previews of Midnight and Turn Left.
Doctor Who Magazine is out 29 May, price £3.99.

Dr Who : Audio Book Award

Posted by rikimuk on 2008/4/30 13:42:01 (100 reads)

The BBC Audiobook recording of Toby Hadoke's one man show Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf has been nominated for a prestigious Sony Radio Academy Award.
The show is an autobiographical piece, told along the timeline of Doctor Who history, using smart comedic observations and excerpts from Toby's teenage diaries. These include how he coped with being bullied, why he never got the girl, and later how being such a fan helped to actually get the girl and end up with two children that are now the envy of every kid in the playground.
Toby commented on the nomination: "It's been quite a fortnight for me - I made my West End debut with the stage show and on the opening night an old friend of mine sent me a message saying that the radio version of Moths was up for a Sony. Something that never even entered my radar."
Toby added: "It's especially pleasing that producer Paul Hardy and BBC 7 will get some much deserved kudos from The Sonys, because without their unfailing enthusiasm and hard work on the project, I wouldn't be in this happy position."
The CD is still available to purchase and Toby is currently touring the show around the UK until June.
